Laurent Linn

Writing novels . . . illustrating superheroes . . . making Muppets . . . designing book covers . . . filling-in for the performer who plays the rear-end of Snuffleupagus (just once, and yes, someone's got to do it) . . . Laurent has worn many hats. (And he's even made quite a few of those.)

After growing up in Dallas, Texas and then getting a degree from Syracuse University in costume and set design, he began his career as the milliner at the New York Shakespeare Festival, creating hats, crowns, armor, and jewelry for Shakespeare in Central Park, the Public Theater, and Broadway.

He then joined the Jim Henson Company as a puppet designer and builder in the legendary Muppet Workshop, creating characters for various productions, including The Muppet Christmas Carol and Muppet Treasure Island films. With Henson for over a decade, he worked primarily on the beloved series Sesame Street, becoming the Creative Director for the Sesame Street Muppets and winning an Emmy Award (four-time Emmy nominee.)

For a behind-the-scenes look at the Sesame Street Muppet world, you can see Laurent in the emotional documentary about legendary puppeteer Caroll Spinney (Big Bird & Oscar the Grouch), I Am Big Bird.

When not writing or illustrating, Laurent is currently an Art Director for Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers where he art directs and designs picture books, middle-grade, and teen novels. He is on the Board of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI, the only professional organization specifically for anyone writing and/or illustrating kid and teen books) and is Artistic Advisor for the annual Original Art exhibit at the Society of Illustrators in New York.

Draw the Line is his first novel.
