Please don't eat me giant Jeff Koons lady! @rockcenternyc

Belgian beer! Belgian waffles! Jet-lag! Children's Books! (And, well, The Smurfs!) What do these have in common?
I've just returned from speaking at a MOST magnificent (and sold-out) conference in Brussels (!), beautifully organized by the impressive @scbwi Europolitan team, this year headed by the fabulous Dina Von Lowenkraft. She and her dedicated team of Regional Advisors, Illustrator Coordinators, and volunteers brought together a marvelous group of children's publishing professionals from many regional countries, as well as the U.S., and the attendees were truly impressive. Thanks to all who came!
Here are a few pics of the fun. (Oh, and Dina arranged for the conference to take place in a petit Belgian Château -- you know, like ya do.) Scroll through the photos and you might just see a gigantic Smurf.
A good lesson for us all. Nature will always win – let's just hope that we mere humans are here for the finish line, too. We are also nature, I like to think.
I found it at last! Sadly, the unicorns must have been out shopping at Trader Joe's or something when I discovered this tiny street in Newburyport, Mass. But check out the size of that unicorn horn on the building! I suspect it's a structure where they worship their unicorn gods.
I am exceedingly jealous of this bear! Who wouldn't want a little book chair to read in? • I made his acquaintance in the marvelous Indy bookstore @jabberwocky_books_nbpt at the Newburyport Literary Festival this past weekend. If you are ever in the area (northeast Massachusetts) you must visit them – what an impressive store!
Hey New England! I'm so excited to be taking part in the wonderful Newburyport Literary Festival @nbptlitfest THIS Saturday, 5/29, in Newburyport, Mass. Come on by and hear us talk about why teen books are more important than ever. Can't wait for my panel with Erin Bowman, Tiffany D. Jackson, and moderated by @bookishhq Bookish's Kelly Gallucci.
Our panel will be lots-o-fun, and also check out the stellar list of other authors and illustrators appearing!
When I saw this painting at the @nelsonatkins museum in Kansas City this past weekend, the luminescence of the tones, light, shading, textures, and color combinations seemed to glow from within. Simply beautiful. • This is a detail of "Goodnight Irene", 1952, a portrait of Lead Belly by Charles Wilbert White.
Sights from the Highline @highlinenyc on Wed. Peaceful yet fabulously full of art and life.
Book launch! Cake! Van Gogh vodka! And most importantly, Deborah Heiligman @dheiligman ! Congrats, Deb, on your magnificent book launch last night at @booksofwonder . Her new YA non-fiction exploration of the Van Gogh brothers and their complicated, creative, and loving relationship looks to be incredible. Can't wait to dive in! (Scrolling through the photos: Here with me and Deborah is David Levithan, & interviewing Debra is Patricia McCormick.)
